Trainers Andrea Holsinger (l) and Kass Goulding with 3 personal dogs DART ™- Aggression Rehabilitation Retriever Field Training Seminars |
Some Comments From Satisfied Clients Greg & Lesley Anderson of Snellville, GA: "We adopted Belle from an area rescue society in June of 2000. When we got her, she was estimated to be about 1 year old, and she was immediately a very enjoyable dog for us. However, soon after Belle had settled into her new home, we noticed that she not only needed training and discipline to teach her to obey us, but to address an occasional aggressive nature – especially when she had a rawhide bone and we tried to take it from her! After doing research and speaking with our vet and some local rescue societies, we determined that one of the more effective, yet humane methods of training dogs was collar conditioning. We then quickly learned that Kass Goulding at PaceSetter Training Kennel is regarded as the area’s leading expert in the field of collar training and conditioning. We made the short trip out to Athens one day to visit the kennel and ask some more questions of Kass. We immediately knew that Kass would be the perfect trainer for Belle as it was obvious that she respects each dog, and treats them in a very humane manner. Her training course is backed with an unparalleled guarantee that states as she will recondition a dog that has been through her course at any time during the dog’s life. We immediately scheduled Belle for the course, confident in our decision. Since Belle went through the short collar training program, she has been an angel. The collar conditioning has not changed her personality, nor has it created a scared, timid dog. In fact, Belle has become happier with us in her home as she now knows her role in our family. She knows when it is time to play, and then she knows when it is time to become serious and obey commands. We routinely walk Belle off lead using the command "heel". She will "sit" and stay for any human that gives the command (even if we command her to sit and then go out of her sight!). Then, when released and commanded to come by saying "here" she will come immediately. In addition, not once has Belle showed any more signs of aggression! We highly recommend Kass Goulding and Pace Setter training kennel." Stevi & Ric Scott of Winder, GA "Thanks again for helping us out with Energy. I can't believe what an extreme improvement he has made since his collar training. He seems so much happier now. Needless to say, so are we! Thanks for taking so much time to work with Energy and with us. Thanks again, Kass, he's doing great!" Mark Wilson of Athens, GA: "Our dog, Luke, was out of control and we were at the end of our rope when we made the call to Pacesetter's. After talking to Kass on the phone, we decided to go see some dogs work in the Total Recall program. It was truly impressive to see the dogs enjoying their work, and the wagging tails! I wasn't sure that collar training was the way to go until I met some of the reformed canines. And then, sure enough, Luke came home as a new dog! He now gets to interact with our family more, and he helps us garden and work in the yard without us worrying that he'll slip off and run away. He is a much better pet, and we would definitely use Pacesetter's again." Rob Cowley of Athens, GA: "I am thrilled with the response that my dog, Honey, has had to the training! She was kind of afraid of other dogs before she was trained, and now she can go the dog park and run off leash and isn't afraid at all! I trust her to listen to me at all times, and the collar training even cured her of getting on the countertops and stealing food. Kass took a lot of time with me to explain the collar and to be sure that Honey was responding as I needed her to. I am really enjoying my "new" dog!" Becky Lewis, Athens, GA: "Gus and Winston are doing wonderfully! I can't say they are perfect, because no dog is perfect, but they are now as close as they can be and still be dogs!" Jeff Brighton of Gainesville, GA: My dog Skippy was terrible about running out the door and chasing around the neighborhood. I paid many fines to animal control, and was ready to just leave him there, but my kids would've killed me! I heard about the Pacesetter training kennel, and enrolled Skippy right away. Two weeks later, I swear Kass switched dogs on me! Even my youngest daughter is able to walk Skippy and command him, and I never thought he would ever listen to an 8 year old! He doesn't rush through the door anymore either. I recommend the service to friends, and we're even thinking about getting another dog, because we know we can have have 2 well-behaved pets. Robin Stoner of Watkinsville, GA: Hi Kass!
Robin Stoner here..... you trained Fidget, my dalmatian for me two years ago
and she is still doing great. It's such a huge blessing to live with her now
as compared to our life with her before, and I really feel I owe that to you.
Thank you again.
People see Fidget and go, "What a great dog!" If only they knew how hard
life with her was before we met you. As you remember, even the Obedience
Classes at Memorial Park with the pinch collar (where we first met
you) didn't phase her much. She was a mess - a beautiful mess, but a mess
and because of her wildness and apprehension about everything - we weren't
able to treat her like a pet.
Now, not only can both my children handle and enjoy her on their own without
me, but she can enjoy us...... and we can take her places and know that she
won't hurt anyone or herself in the process. I can even trust her with our
neighbor's 5-year-old daughter who has Downs Syndrome.... Fidget is gentle
with her and listens when Grace tells her to "sit" - but only after she
gives her a "kiss". =)
Your training did that for her and for us and I sincerely mean it when I say
thank you
Albert and Emma Laing of Bishop, GA: Ed Harrison of Sugar Hill, GA: We were at the end of our rope with our dog, Molly. We had tried several obedience classes (all of them used clickers), but Molly was never reliable unless we had food in our hands. That wasn't too practical for us, and we travel alot and like to take Molly along with us. It was frustrating to have to keep her on a short leash, and if she ever got loose, look out! She was gone like a shot. We heard about Pacesetter's training "boot camp" and we decided we had nothing to lose, so we signed her up. We came back to get Molly after 2 weeks. I must admit my hopes weren't too high, as we had already tried so many times with her. Molly came out from her run walking at heel, even when she saw us! That by itself was a minor miracle! Then she was heeling for us, and sitting immediately when told, but the real icing came when Kass had us take the leash off. I was pretty nervous about that, since Molly knew when she was off leash and would run with joy. Not only did Molly not run off, but when she did wander away, she came back instantly with just one word!! Incredible. That was over a year ago now, and we are enjoying our sweet Molly more than ever. We recently took a camping trip and we really impressed the other people there when we took her walking and were able to have her off leash and at heel while on the trails. Boy, was I proud! Thanks Kass for the great dog we always knew we had! Mary Ellen Swanson of Atlanta, GA: Our pit bull, Rocky, was on his way to the dog pound when we heard from a friend about the remarkable results they had with a trainer near Athens. After a family vote, we decided to take Rocky for the Total Recall training program at Pacesetter. My husband and I secretly thought that the trainer would never be able to overcome Rocky's dog aggression and leash pulling problems. I think we would have not even tried this training except for the satisfaction guarantee, and our friend's recommendation. Well, how wrong I was. Rocky is now a well-adjusted pet for our entire family and we can enjoy walking him in our neighborhood - something we could NEVER do before he was trained. When he sees another dog, he looks away from it and gives his attention to whoever is holding the leash. And by the way, he doesn't pull any more either! It is nothing short of a miracle, and my kids are so happy they didn't have to "get rid of the dog". Carolyn Steele of Raleigh, NC: My German Shepherd, Ace, got me into some deep doo-doo with my neighbors when he killed one of their cats. They sued me for damages and I lost - it cost me a lot of money! I couldn't bear to get rid of Ace, so I started searching for a trainer who could cure him of cat chasing. My search led me to several trainers, all of them claimed they could fix my dog. The first trainer used clickers and ropes, but Ace still tried to chase cats and I was afraid he would catch one and kill it again. He certainly wasn't reliable off leash and the training did nothing to stop him from running through the door to get to the yard where the CATS lived! I came across the Pacesetter website and was intrigued by the descriptions of training results. Ace and I made the drive to Georgia and I left him for the 2 week program. I must admit to being worried when the resident cats came strolling out while I was filling out my paperwork! When I came back for Ace, it was clear that he had undergone a major attitude adjustment. He was proud and happy, but he really didn't care about chasing cats any more! His response to obedience commands was excellent and I was totally amazed. This was so easy! My neighbors were understandably worried when Ace came home, but he proved that he could be a good dog and leaves their cats alone! Oh, and he doesn't rush the door anymore! he's turned into a real gentleman. I would recommend this training to anyone. The McCormack family of Athens, GA
Dear Kass,
Thanks again for starting the training of
Wilson! We are off to a very good start at home. The biggest challenges
we have faced so far have more to do with me understanding the timing of
correction than anything else and I think I am getting that down. He has
been very, very good about Louise and I am very confident that we have the
tools to work through any problems. I think the booklets are a very good
resource for us.
First thing this morning, I took him on a walk
with the goal of being as quiet and calm as possible and it went really
well. I had Wilson off-leash for some playtime, when he started running
after a squirrel I said "here"- I didn't even yell and he stopped, I said
it again with a quick "hello" on the collar (at 1/2) and he came rushing
back wagging his tail!
I am really excited about this training, I
want Wilson to have a job- I think he will be happier the more "work" I
can give him. When he has started to wind up I have just done some basic
obedience commands with him and he seems almost relieved to know what he
should be doing. It is fundamentally a different relationship than I have
had with a dog before- it takes more work and I have to think about what I
am doing instead of just reacting, but it is also more interesting and
rewarding. I really look forward to seeing how good a dog Wilson will be
with another couple of months of consistent handling.
I wish everyone would get their dog trained by
you, we had a dog run up to us and jump all over us and the owner was
calling and calling, Wilson was very excited and he bounced around in his
"sit", but he did manage to sit- I wish I could just pass out your card as
we walk down the street!!!
Thanks Again,
Virginia, Connell, Louise and Wilson
Mack Kingston of Augusta, GA OK, I must admit you got me. I made a bet with my wife that our dog, Buddy, could NEVER be trained in 2 weeks. I can't even list all of the problems he gave us. Worst of it all was that he jumped the fence all the time and ran all over the neighborhood. I sure got tired of chasing him! All of the training talk sounded great, but I just knew that Buddy needed a LOT of training. Well, let me tell you, he is a pure pleasure now, and it was done right on schedule. I recommend the training to my neighbors, because they chase their dogs around the neighborhood too! Buddy is now the picture of obedience and we cured his fence jumping quickly and easily with one short correction. I would thank you, but I'm too busy taking the garbage out and washing the car (because I lost the bet!). Tommy Thomas and family, Fayetteville, GA
Just a quick note to let you know that Jayke is doing wonderfully. The
training he received from you has made a world of difference. Because of
his behavior, we plan on taking him to the mountains with us this weekend
instead of putting him in the overnight kennel. We have had him off leash
in the front yard and he stays right with us -- has not bolted once!
Thanks again!
Lou and Marty Parratt, Social Circle, GA
We are having a steady
progression on Buddy. He gets stubborn days as you warned us and we have
to be a little sterner. However he is a changed dog since you had him. He
is FUN to be with and is responsive to commands.
We are now progressing
to the socialization part of his training and are finding that he afraid
of passing vehicles, inquisitive of new people and sometimes very strong
minded. However we feel confident with the strong basics you gave him we
will progress into a great companion.
Many thanks for a job
well done.
Allison Jefferson of Chattanooga, TN I wanted to send you a note to report on Katie's training progress since we picked her up from the kennel. She is still showing some insecurity, especially when we meet new dogs and if we encounter somebody she doesn't expect. BUT (and this is a big but), it is NOTHING like it was before her training; now she is easily calmed with just a word, and I am able to reward her instead of jerking her neck (or her pulling me down the street to get away!) or using that &#$% clicker. Once she calms down, she is then able to approach the new dog or person, even wagging her tail, and will take treats from a stranger!!!! I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Thank you, thank you, thank you for fixing my dog!! Katie has become the companion I always knew she could be. Ron and Karen Williams, Athens, GA Jester is doing GREAT! What a change for the better. It's like magic, but I know you worked hard to get these results....it just seems magical! My 8 year old asked me if I was sure we had gotten the same dog back! I know it's the same body, and I'm grateful he has a new and improved mind! Thanks again. Joyce Harper, Watkinsville, GA We are very pleased with the training Crystal got. She used to be naughty and now she listens like a dream. John Griffin, Hull, GA Kass, just a note to say thanks for the work that you did with Emma. I was sure at the end of my rope with her. We're even thinking about getting a friend for her, and we'll be in touch for training when we find the right dog! Becky Chandler, Winterville, GA
Hi Kass,
We took Abe out around the cows and horses and
he was very good. Did not have to correct him. He did bite at Elvis when
he went into the barn and turned his back to him. E kicked at him and he
turned and ran. D was too far back with the remote to see what was
happening. After that we took him around the other horses in the pasture
and did not have to correct him. He also went with me in the golf cart to
bring the horses in and the horses were running along beside and he did
not even bark at them. He waited patiently in the cart while I finished
in the barn. I am very happy. I think even D is impressed. THANK YOU!!

Hello Kass,
I wanted to thank you again for your help
with Dottie. She is progressing wonderfully! We only had to work with
her a couple of days in the yard with Josie and now she is just fine
around Josie. I wouldn't call them friends...but they are roommates! We
were able to have Dottie in the house with us all weekend in a kennel
instead of out in the garage. It was great. Our next task is her
behavior with the cats. She wants to eat them. We are working on that :)
She will start her heartworm treatment this week. She is turning into a
very good doggie. We got her a new collar and a nametag with our info on
it because we have officially made her a family member now. Thanks again
and I will keep you updated!
Kathleen Blackburn, Washington, GA
Hi Kass-
I meant to email you last week about how wonderfully Mattie is doing,
but somehow I always seem to be busier than I expected. But...Mattie is
doing GREAT! She's able to be outside with me, she wants to stay closer
to where I am, she runs to explore things nearby, but always wants to
keep an eye on me as well...she's just all together a happier dog!
Margaret asked about borrowing my collar to modify some of Shirley's
behaviors after Mattie weans off it...I told not such a good ideal since
timing is so crucial to training and hers would likely not be accurate
enough. She trains horses for a living and completely understood this,
so maybe she'll get Shirley into you guys eventually after all!
I've been very impressed also by how well Mattie ignores Shirley when
she needs to be focusing on mom. Thanks again for all of your help!
You will be highly recommended by me to everyone! =)
Hope all is well at the kennels!
Kevin Harris, Athens, GA I just wanted to let you know how very pleased we are with Maggie's training. Tim did a fantastic job with her and it's so nice to not be yelling at her constantly. She is now what a dog should be - our BEST FRIEND. Thanks again. Bill & Nancy Akin, Watkinsville, GA (visit www.georgiaairdawgs.com for info on dock diving) Hi Kass... Chris Miller, Alpharetta, GA Hi Kass, Just a note to let you know that Molly is doing great and we are very pleased with her training. We have been taking her for long walks, and can now take her off-leash at the dog park, so she's getting a lot of exercise. We can tell that she's a happier dog, and we are definitely happier owners :-) Chris and Terry Miller Wayne & Liz Wheeler, Commerce, GA Liz and I just wanted to say thanks for all the work you did with our dogs. Sampson and Newbie are doing great. We are able to walk them together and Sampson is much less aggressive toward strangers. He will bark a few times and then settle down. We are impressed with the results, but we were more impressed with your dedication to your guarantee. The fact that you trained our dogs for an extra month and then delivered them to our home so you could observe them was amazing. I wish more organizations had the same commitment as yours. Thank you very much for all your hard work. If anyone ever needs a reference, they can call me. Wayne & Liz Wheeler Alison Brantley, Cumming, GA
Hey Kass!
Just wanted to let you know Cleo is doing great :) We have been
going on lots of walks and she has only reacted twice...both times
the other dog initiated aggression toward Cleo and she responded but
after being corrected she stopped. Yesterday we went on a walk and
stopped by our neighbors to drop off some mail and Cleo was
completely calm and sweet with their two dogs and three young girls!
I asked if they remembered Cleo and they thought I had gotten a new
dog because she acts so differently. She is responding well to the
shock collar (I only really have to use it when we go on walks and
rarely then) and she is overall more attentive and obedient. This
weekend we are going to walk down to the river where there are
always tons of bikers, runners, strollers, and dogs. We will see how
that goes but I have high hopes! I will make sure to arm myself with
treats....Hope you and the other dogs are well!
Joanne Young, Lake Oconee, GA Hi Kass,
Kula and I just came back from a great walk, she's really
doing well--and I'm getting better :>)
Yesterday, the big test came when Ruby
(our neighbor's Chessie) ran into our yard while we were having play
time. Ruby picked up Kula's favorite toy and ran home with it.
Kula started to bolt so I gave the "here" command followed by a
slight reminder (level 2). She immediately turned around and came
to me!
You did an awesome job of training--I couldn't be happier.
Thanks,
Rebecca Houser, El Paso, TX Kass,
I just wanted to give you a quick update on Bailey and Abby. They
are both doing fantastic! We moved to El Paso,TX and live in an
apartment. Without you, we could of never even thought about walking
them on a leash every time they need to go out. Abby is the most
amazing dog now. She listens to every command I give her where
before she just looked at me. She doesn't jump on the counters,
couch or on people. It is a blessing to have a dog that now listens
and is calm. Now on to the "problem" dog, Bailey is doing ten times
better. I walk both of them everyday day. We can walk past people
and dogs and he doesn't do anything! Every now and then he gets
excited, but we correct him and he calms down immediately. The big
story is, we let him play off leash with another dog! At first we
put a muzzle on him because we weren't sure how he would react with
playing. But, after a minute of sniffing and establishing dominance,
he played just like a puppy. I was blown away! Now we have weekly
"play dates". Kass, without you none of this would of been possible.
Our lives are so much better because our dogs are now able to go
places and act like wonderfully trained dogs. Oh, and the ride
across country was peaceful and as you saw the first time we met,
that is a miracle. Once again, you are a life saver for not only us
but our dogs have a better life now too!! I hope all is well!
(note- Abby completed our Total Recall program, and Bailey completed our DART program) Kate and Jessica Starling, FL Things are going so, so well. Sugar's excitement level is under control so far. She ignored the peacocks in the neighborhood, got rushed by two different small dogs and besides from startled by them, had no growling or anything. Jessica and I are completely amazed, so thank you. (note - Sugar completed our DART program for dog aggression) Jyll Jordan, GA Hi Kass! Hope you are doing well! You will probably
remember me by my dog, Jitterbug. He is doing quite well, by the
way.
First, I am contacting you to let you know that I recommended you many times; most recently to a dear friend of mine, whose daughter has problem dog. Second, I will just give you an update on
Jitterbug. He continues to improve. His recall is superb.
Per your advice, I don’t usually take him out without putting on his
collar. However, with my granddaughter in the house, he has been
allowed out without it. A firm ‘HERE’ gets him back every time.
I also will take him just outside to get in my Jeep or pee real quick
without the collar, just to make sure that the behavior is learned and
not just because the collar is on. When I take the dogs for a
walk down my street, they both wear their e-collars and enjoy their
walks. There are barking dogs all along the walk and Jitterbug
avoids eye contact 95% of the time; occasionally I will say leave it and
he will turn his head.
We walk down the street to the horse pasture, where
he sees a horse and two donkeys come to the fence, and he mostly
ignores them. I have not tried petting them while he is with me,
but we will gradually work that in. I have a man in my life now, who has a Yorkie mix.
He brought her over a while back and we thought everyone would be ok,
but I don’t believe I handled that the best way. We should have
introduced them outside or on neutral ground. I made the mistake
of bringing her right into the house. Jitterbug tried to eat
her………….the good news is it was not as intense and I was able to remove
him without any damage. For this weekend, we approached it
differently. We separated them with a French door. There is
an e-collar on her and he is wearing his. This is working so far
and he is now completely non reactive. Before the weekend is over,
we will take them all for a walk……..(on leashes, of course)……and keep
their energy moving forward. We’ll see how they do. If you
have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to chime in.
J I am sooooooo happy that I have a dog that can go
outside and run without being on a leash. It is a pleasure to see
him run and play with Skeeter (his mom)………… They are both better pets
now because of the program. I am so glad that you were referred to
me and I hope that I can continue to send others to you who will have
the same results. Kind regards, Diane & Mark Ramming, south GA
I just realized that I haven't sent you an update on Junior!
Junior is doing very good, I've been able to board him at the vet
and he has
Made fast friends with the kennel manager. She ignored his
outbursts and he
totally responded to that!! You should see them together, it would
make you happy.
As soon as he sees her, he drops and rolls over for a belly rub.
When I picked him up the other day we were standing at the counter
and Junior
walked up to the woman behind me (on his own, no prompting) and
"asked" her to pet him, which she did since she didn't know his
history, and he let her pet him!
It was heartwarming to say the least. ( I of course panicked but bit
my tongue when I saw how he welcomed the attention)
We are going to continue to board him locally since they have done
so well with him.
He still growls at the vet but I don't blame him, I don't like her
either.
I think we are going to stick with the male vet, he seems to respond
to him better.
Bella is super happy to have her big brother home too!
It's a work in progress but we take it a little at a time. I almost
positive we can get him
to Italy now.
Thanks for all you have done, you have saved his life!!!!
