Recommended Reading

For more insight into your dog's problems, personality, and perspectives, check out these books.

For field training, we recommend "The Working Retrievers" by Tom Quinn.  This is almost a coffee-table book, except that the content is outstanding for everyday field training.

We also like "Retriever Puppy Training" by Clarice Rutherford and Cherylon Loveland (Alpine Books).  Despite it's title, it's a great starting point for retrievers of all ages.

For raising a companion dog, you'll want to read "How To Be Your Dog's Best Friend", by the Monks of New Skete.  This one has become a classic and should be in everyone's library.

Check out "Good Dogs, Great Owners" by Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson.  Filled with common-sense advice and doesn't pull any punches.

If you work long hours and find that you have problems developing with your canine pal because of it, you'll want to read "The Latchkey Dog" by Jodi Anderson.  This book gives you great insight into how and why problems develop, and gives you ideas on how to prevent them while giving your dog sensible boundaries.

More dog books can be found at Dogwise books.
