Each spring, we hold retriever field training seminars here in Winterville. Each seminar spans 3 days (over a weekend) and is limited to 10 dog/handler teams for both the Basic and the Advanced. The fee for either seminar is $250.00 for a working team (one dog/handler) and $50.00 for observers who attend without a dog. These are working seminars - you and your dog will get yard work, marks on land and water, real birds, guns will be used and training problems are addressed. These seminars are open to any breed that will be used as a non-slip retriever.

The Advanced seminar will begin Friday, March19 through Sunday March 21. As usual, all attendees are invited to attend the free training dates in the week between seminars. We will use live and dead birds for this training week. Flyer ducks are available for $12./bird, and must be reserved in advance. Working seminar participants are strictly limited to a total of 10. The Basic seminar (click here for application) is suitable for those new to or very inexperienced in the field. It will cover such things as proper exposure to birds/water/guns, force fetch, basic obedience for the field, simple single marks and an introduction to hunting tests rules and regulations. Dogs that will benefit most from this seminar will be preparing for AKC Junior Hunter tests and WC tests. Use this button to place a deposit for the Basic seminar: The Advanced seminar (click
here for application) is suitable for dogs and handlers
that have some experience (JH/WC level work) and wish to progress to
Senior Hunter concepts and beyond. Yard work will address collar
conditioning, progressive handling drills and field work will cover
simple multiples and simple blinds through more advanced concepts.
We carry TriTronics collars at competitive prices and collars may be
purchased before, during or after seminars. Use this button to
place a deposit for the Advanced seminar: Seminars are meant to be an "overview" of field training at the selected level (Basic or Advanced), or a way to bridge some training concepts. For more in-depth instruction, you may be more interested in attending a 5 day individualized training camp. With some differences, our program is based on the training program developed by top professional trainer Mike Lardy. Click here for local motels. Current, local weather forecasts can be found here.
