Some Facts About Remote Collars

1. Remote collars are one of the most humane dog training alternatives available today. The technology has come to such a point that a trainer may customize the correction very accurately for the dog’s temperament and personality. Remote collars do NOT injure dogs....even at the highest setting, there will never be a physical injury of any kind to the dog.   Even the highest setting is comparable to a medical TENS unit.  Compare that to the more common pull or jerk on a leash, using either a buckle collar, choke-type collar or pinch collar. Even so-called "gentle leader" head collars can subluxate a cervical vertebrae if the dog is pulled up short with it.  Just continuous pulling (without jerking) can cause tracheal injuries, and interfere with proper breathing. In many cases, remote collars allow the trainer to control the dog’s behavior without using a leash at all.  Video

2. The remote collar does not represent force, threat, or domination from the trainer; instead, the trainer becomes a safe, pleasant haven of security and protection, not a frightening place of correction, pain, and fear. Instead of using harsh or disapproving tones, the trainer is able to speak to the dog in a conversational tone, and to richly verbally reward for the correct response. The average dog naturally seeks such praise, and will begin to naturally gravitate to the handler more frequently, resulting in even more praise for the dog.  Video

3. The remote collar eliminates the dependency of a leash always being on the animal; it allows the trainer, within days, to train the dog off leash, and to have the dog be focused, attentive, and cooperative. Dogs trained with remote collars also demonstrate a calmness and confidence not seen with other methods.  Video

4. The remote collar allows the trainer to give a minimal correction by selecting appropriate levels of stimulation in order to gain maximum control, obedience, and understanding from the dog. A typical training session consists of very few corrections, lots of praise and a dog very willing to work as a team with it’s trainer.  Video

5. The remote collar allows the dog to work off-lead very rapidly, and gives the dog a sense of freedom and responsibility from the start of training. This promotes a very strong bond with the trainer, and increases the dog’s trust level with the trainer. A sense of joy and security between dog and trainer develops rapidly.  Video

6. Remote collars promote positive interaction between dog and trainer. Imagine never having to raise your voice to your dog, to be able to let your dog run and play off-lead, and to be able to address behavior problems quickly and completely, without ever getting physical or emotional with your dog.   Video

7. Remote collars are effective with nearly every breed and personality of dog.  Consider that many breeds (most particularly in the terrier, hound and less often, working and non-sporting groups) were developed to work somewhat independently of humans.  This independence is still apparent today, and such dogs are considered to be "difficult to train", when in fact they simply need the right motivation to pay attention and respond to obedience commands.  Remote collars do this most effectively, while maintaining the dog's natural instincts.   Video

8. Remote collars are effective when dogs are not food-motivated enough to respond to "purely positive" methods (a huge percentage of the dog population fits under this category).  When the "purely positively" trained dog encounters a distraction that overwhelms the desire to get a food reward (such as a squirrel dashing across the yard or a child riding by on a bicycle), the result is disobedience to a known command.  The remote collar allows the trainer to instantly react to unexpected distractions and to increase the correction level appropriately to stop the dog from chasing or otherwise ignoring the handler, and potentially being killed or injured as a result.  Video

9. Remote collars equalize the mismatch of small/handicapped/elderly handlers with large/strong/unruly dogs.  Contests of strength are no longer needed, as the dog responds happily and reliably to verbal commands.  In the event the dog should choose to ignore a command, the handler is in a position to correct the behavior instantly and without requiring any strength at all.  Video

10. Remote collars deliver a consistent level of communication to the dog.
